Indie Artist Emerald Gearing Grapples with American Identity in Her Latest Single ‘American Grace’
Weaving together blistering, original lyrics with the national anthem, American Grace’ is the perfect song ahead of the Inauguration
New York-based singer-songwriter Emerald Gearing is set to release ‘American Grace’, a poignant pop rock ballad about a nation in crisis and its hope for redemption, on January 3rd. Paying homage to a military march, this track offers a much-needed rallying cry ahead of January 20th.
‘American Grace’ was written in a single session on July 13th, the day of the assassination attempt on former President Trump, and is the latest collaboration between Emerald and her long-time co-producer, New York jazz pianist Glafkos Kontemeniotis. The track’s anthemic instrumentation and haunting vocals pulls listeners into a soundscape that is both timely and timeless. Although ‘American Grace’ is Emerald’s first explicit protest song, its themes of disillusionment, perseverance and hope are evident in her debut album, the lonely hour, which was released October 19, 2024.
Emerald comments, “People don’t realize by looking at me, but I only became a U.S. citizen in 2021. I chose this country. And I truly believe that it’s our obligation to make our corner of the world - of the country - better, however we can. Never forget that kindness is an act of resistance.”
